In February 2020, coaches and administrators of taekwondo, jiujitsu and para-jiujitsu visited the United States in order to study methods to improve inclusion and disability rights through sports. They visited special needs practitioners, Olympic athletes, martial arts legends, and many more in their journey to uncover new methods of teaching and training youth in Belgium.

For one week, program officers from our Sports Visitors team traveled to three cities in Indonesia and participated in the soccer culture.

The highland city of Bandung is only a short 2.5 hours' drive southeast of Jakarta via toll road, and is the overwhelming destination of choice for Jakarta residents to get away for weekends and long holidays.

Garut is an Old Dutch hill station and a characteristic Sundanese town in the highlands, surrounded by mountains, volcanoes, and crystal-clear lakes. Garut's Hindu temples and hot springs are often the destination for hikers attracted by spectacular views from the mountaintops.

The city of Tasikmalaya is located in the mountainous Preanger region at an elevation of 1,151 feet, about 50 miles southeast of Bandung. The population is made up of Javanese who are santri (devout) Muslims, with some Chinese and Indian settlers.

The Sports Visitor Program is a sports-based international exchange that represents American excellence, leadership, and key lessons learned in sports broadly – from playgrounds to professional leagues. Sports Visitors are non-elite youth athletes, coaches, and administrators who travel to the United States for a fast-paced short-term sports cultural exchange. During the program, they engage with American peers and sports practitioners, participate in clinics and sessions on leadership, team-building and conflict resolution, as well as on inclusion and equity in sport.

The Julie Foudy & espnW Sports Leadership Academy combines a four-night, five-day residential Summer Sports Camp and a Leadership Academy for girls ages 12-18. The aim of the JFSLA is to expose students to Julie’s great passion: the concept of not just being a leader on the field but a leader in life.
